New genetic test may help with antidepressant prescriptions

Posted on June 19th, 2012 No Comments

Many people that suffer from severe depression will be prescribed multiple different antidepressants before they find one that works well for them with the least amount of side effects.

Now, a genetic test is being offered by AssureRX Health that helps use a person’s genetic makeup to find the antidepressant that works best for them.

The test is called GeneSightRx and will be able to identify which antidepressants, up to three or four, will not work well and point to at least one that will. Antidepressants activate different brain chemicals and this test will see which enzymes a person possesses in order to determine which antidepressant should be prescribed.
