Study: Use of Prescription Drugs by Pregnant Women on the Rise

Posted on June 7th, 2011 No Comments

The number of women taking prescription drugs during pregnancy is increasing, a new study says.

According to a study published by the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, about 80 percent of all pregnant women in the United States reported taking prescription medication while they were pregnant. More than 50 percent of women said they took at least one medication during the first trimester of their pregnancy.

Researchers at the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as top scientists from Boston University and Harvard, worked with the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities to conduct the study. More than 30,000 women were interviewed about their use of medication during pregnancy. Researchers found that over the last 30 years, the number of pregnant women taking at least one prescription medication increased by 60 percent.

If you used a prescription drug, such as Zoloft, during your pregnancy and your child has suffered a birth defect, please contact the Zoloft Birth Defect Lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-641-9810.
