The Many Uses of Zoloft

Posted on June 6th, 2011 No Comments

Zoloft is one of the most common antidepressant medications prescribed in the United States.

The prescription drug Zoloft was released by the Pfizer corporation in 1991. The antidepressant was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration in October of 1997. Zoloft is the brand name form of sertraline HCL, which is a part of a family of antidepressants known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

The drug has been approved for use among adults over the age of 18 years-old. While commonly prescribed for depression, Zoloft is used in treating such conditions as panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder. The drug has also been approved for use in treating obsessive-compulsive disorder in children aged 6 through 17.

Recent studies have linked Zoloft to a number of serious birth defects. If your child suffered a birth defect after you used Zoloft while pregnant, please contact the Zoloft Birth Defect Attorneys of Williams Kherkher at 800-64109810.
