Zoloft birth defect lawsuit filed in Ohio

Posted on May 22nd, 2012 No Comments

A couple in Ohio recently filed a birth defect lawsuit against the makers of Zoloft after his mother was prescribed the medication during pregnancy without being warned of any risks and their son developed a birth defect as a result.

Zoloft, a popular antidepressant in the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor category, has recently been in the media because it of ties to increased risk of serious birth defects when taken during pregnancy.

The mother was prescribed to Zoloft in 1996 in order to treat her depression and became pregnant shortly after. In August 1997, she gave birth to a son and he suffered from serious heart issues.

He has now had three heart surgeries, the first one at the age of eight months. The family is seeking compensation for the pain and suffering caused to the boy.
