Antepartum depression

Posted on September 1st, 2011 No Comments

Women who feel depressed during their pregnancy are suffering from antepartum depression.

Antepartum depression can be caused by changes in hormones that occurs during pregnancy. When hormones change, brain chemicals can be affected, leading to depression and anxiety. It has been reported by the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists that 14 to 23 percent of pregnant women will face symptoms of depression.

Depression during pregnancy can be triggered by many diffferent situations. Stressful life events, pregnancy complications, relationship issues, and infertility treatments can all trigger depression. A woman may also feel depressed while pregnant if she has lost a pregnancy in the past or has a personal or family history of depression.

Support groups and therapy can help treat depression in pregnant women. However, some women choose to take anti-depressant medications like Zoloft. Unfortunately, studies have shown that Zoloft can cause serious birth defects if taken while pregnant.

If you used Zoloft to treat depression while pregnant and your child has been born with a birth defect, please contact the Zoloft birth defect lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-641-9810 today.
