Study shows antidepressants cause rise in blood pressure in pregnant women

Posted on April 13th, 2012 No Comments

A new study, revolved around more than 13,000 pregnant women, focused on the connection between antidepressant medication and hypertension.

The results of the study indicated that pregnant women who were regularly taking antidepressant medication were 53 percent more likely to develop high blood pressure and hypertension during their pregnancy. The absolute risk associated with this medication was relatively low, but did increase from 2 percent to 3.1 percent.

Statistics show that roughly one in five women suffer from a form of depression while they are going through a pregnancy. Out of those women, 14 percent of them will seek antidepressant medication to treat their symptoms. Doctors advise that women be cautious with this type of medication, because several risks have been associated with it, including numerous birth defects.

If you took Zoloft, an antidepressant medication, while you were pregnant, and your child was born with a severe birth defect, please contact the Zoloft lawsuit lawyers of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-641-9810 today.
