Zoloft Birth Defects: Tetralogy of Fallot

Posted on May 23rd, 2011 No Comments

The antidepressant drug Zoloft has recently been linked to a number of birth defects, including Tetralogy of Fallot.

Tetralogy of Fallot is a congenital heart defect which involves four anatomical abnormalities, though only three need to be present. The condition is the most common cyanotic heart defect.

Tetralogy of Fallot results in low oxygenation of the blood caused by the mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood in the left ventricle. The condition involves a right-to-left shunt. The primary symptom of Teralogy of Fallot is low blood oxygen saturation. Other symptoms include a heart murmur, difficulty feeding, failure to gain weight, retarded growth or physical development, and clubbing of the fingers or toes.

If your child has suffered a birth defect, such as Tetralogy of Fallot, after you used the antidepressant Zoloft while pregnant, please contact the Zoloft Birth Defect Attorneys of Williams Kherkher by calling 800-641-9810.
